Overcoming trauma is never easy, but having people to support you along the way makes all the difference. The road to freedom for survivors of human trafficking requires people who will believe in them even when they don't believe in themselves.
Here at Rescue Her, the survivors in our program (we call them Brave Ones) meet together once a week for Empower Night. We have Brave Ones who have been with us for a year and some who have only been with us a few weeks. They are all on their own path to finding healing and they bring their own perspectives to the table.
Last week, one of the Brave Ones we have been working with for almost a year now shared this beautiful analogy to one of the newer survivors in our program:
"I'm on my own healing journey. The Rescue Her advocates walk in front of me and hold my hand along the way. The same way they walk before me and hold my hand and guide me, I can do the same for you. Then one day, you will be able to walk in front of someone and reach your hand back to help them. We are all in this together and we need each other."
Our Empower Nights are a safe place for our Brave Ones no matter if they have been here for a year or for a week. It's a place to share struggles and to encourage one another. A place where they realize that they don't have to walk their journey alone. Together they are making a difference in each other's lives!
