Motels are a hotspot for human trafficking. We fight trafficking in the DFW area by equipping motels with the tools they need to identify victims and offer guests a way to get help if in an unsafe situation.
Since September 2015, we've distributed over 72,000 motel soaps with the trafficking hotline label, built relationships with 90 motels in DFW, and distributed staff training materials to all of those 90 motels.
WHY AND HOW
In many cases, the only time a victim is alone in a motel is when she is in the bathroom. We offer motels awareness materials to place in each bathroom: soaps and cards with the National Human Trafficking Hotline information.
Missing and runaway children are extremely vulnerable to traffickers. We provide motel owners with current missing children's reports and train staff on how to report any missing children that they see.
There is a lack of awareness about trafficking in many motels. We offer in-depth training to motel staff so that everyone from housekeepers to front desk workers know what the red flags of trafficking are and how to make the necessary reports.
Join our Freedom and Justice Teams to help us reach local motels! Teams visit motels once a month on Saturday mornings for about 3-4 hours to build relationships with staff, distribute materials and supplies, help staff make reports, and help conduct staff training. Having a consistent group of volunteers visiting the same motels is KEY to effectively working with motel staff to identify trafficking. Fill out a volunteer application today!
